Hmmmm...just thinking!

I open a mag and read 'how to look good naked'....and think easy...just let it hang out i think.

Then I watch foxtel 'Next top model'...who gives a shit.....are we really that shallow that now we sit on couch and watch other peoples 'REALITY' bull shit...as if your life isn't already hard work, full of hurdles to jump, possibly emotional and tiresome....then you want to watch it, someone elses?? Take me away I say.....give me something so far removed from REALITY almost trashy....something I don't need to compare myself to - for better or worse. EXAMPLE- Jersey Shore...I walk away and say 'losers' and feel better about myself, Biggest Loser...i think I've got my own fat ass to look at in the mirror and feel guilty if I've eaten too much pasta.....and I change the channel. I love to escape with topics that are not my REALITY or close to it....Mad Men- oh to have lived in the 50's, Gossip Girl- I know its some rich bitches reality but its not mine....the fashion and drama fabo, TruBlood- addicted and totally sucked in (pardon the pun)....... Can you even remember what life was like before the net, facebook, ipods, foxtel, TECHNOLOGY????

I do- there were people visiting un expetadly with no call- it was fine, exceptable and fun. Could you imagine if that happened now, after they leave you'd be like 'can you believe they just popped past and at dinner time, so rude', now its 'lets catch up....in July, got your diary?' . As kids we would climb trees, play chasy, have a slippery slide at the front and run through the sprinkler (no stage 3 back then), play 'husbands and wives' and kiss with our hands in the middle, there were dinner parties every weekend, eating noodles out of a box was like a dream when watching it on Melrose place, driving to La Porchetta in either Toorak or Carlton was considered a special treat (now they are everywhere and crap wateva!).....life was full but so much more social and FACE to FACE..... i am scared to think what our SOCIAL or lack of LIFE will be like in 10, 20- 30 years to come.

Too many options, too much pressure TO BE...... let it all hang out I say and JUST BE!

The 'CBF' onion messy bun

The onion messy bun- when you have the CBF's (can't be f'ds) and having a crap hair day, pulling your hair into a high messy loose bun.

At first I will admit, I was totally against this hairstyle as I believe it portrays 'being un tidy, out of control', 'lost', 'lack of motivation. However, after moving house this weekend just gone, the 'Onion' was highly appropriate and fitting to the occassion. The problem is that it is highly addictive and have found it hard to leave with the boxes and messy spare room.....why is it we feel we need to to appear maintained and manicured in order to 'feel' ready to conquer the world? Will i do the 'onion' tomorrow? - secretly I would love to, however NO I will be reaching for my GHD to wave a wittle magic........i love sexy curls. If only I could braid my fringe.....it would be a pretty CBF style.

CHEEKY.....

Being out and about I can't help but watch what EVERYone is wearing....I'll be listening to a client or friend however my eyes are darting here there and everywhere! One thing I keep seeing and its driving me nuts is denim 'short shorts'.....and I mean SHORT! Cheeky in fact.... Its not so much that others can and are wearing but that 12-16 year olds are!!! What ever happened to self respect and their parents having a say...I mean I am all for self expression but I don't to be expressed to this much. It attracts the wrong idea and simply put....young girls should not be looked at in those regions by men. PUT THEM AWAY!!!

'When I grow up........'

Growing up my parents always said 'You be anything you want if you put your mind to it'........how do you process this at 10 years old? I wanted to be Punky Brewster.......and that didn't happen. I am only starting to understand (after 28 years and 10 years of solid personal development) that you CAN be and DO anything you want as long as you don't listen to everyone's elses Issues, Fears, Jealousy and Insecurities (as you would know people like to dump their crap).

Again, how does a 10 Year Old process this?? They don't! And they don't care! They get hurt, they fall over with scratched knees and get back up again......... They believe they are the SHIT anyway if getting to the tuck shop before anyone ele to get a cola sunny boy(remember those) is achieving a goal......then Mum & Dad are right the 10 year old thinks!.

Apply this to being an adult (we are supposed to be aren't we).....are you still trying to think about what you want to be 'When you grow up' and planning on how your going to get there? We all are.....some people just plan and others believe like a feather the wind will blow them where they are meant to go. SO.....do you believe you can do and be anything you want? YOU SHOULD......dreaming then believing and finally achieving is an amazing experience. AND its FREE!!

PS- Found my inner child this weekend.....you know those child proof trampolines with the safety nets? Yeah well I star jumped in there 'wooing' with every jump and then proceeded to hold hands with a 5 & 3 yo and 19 month old....jumping and laughing! Its GREAT to get back to basics........just being! TRY IT!

CHRISTMAS IN 22 DAYS....What the!?

Ok....tell me its just not me feeling whacked and like I've been in a time shuttle that has made the past 12 months fly and is if I had just digested my 2008 Christmas Turkey?

Christmas is 22 days away.....what the?! I can't even get my head around buying gifts....AGAIN! I wonder if there is a little man who is responsible for the time and likes to shit stir every now and then and fast forwards the time on us and then on other days.....delays the hell of the day as if it is Brisbane SLOW time...!!! Seriously though, Life now offers us so much, so many things to do, see, achieve....that we are busy busy busy being busy and completely miss the down time!

Apparently it gets even faster when you have children....HOLD ON, PUT YOUR SEAT BELT ON!

Well, I thought it was just me but my gorgeous Nonna Maria turned 77 last week...and whilst making me a Wog espresso in the old school cafeteria coffee maker- sighs (add little wog old lady accent)- 'Melina, life a goes very very fast, i no know where the time go'. Refreshing and scary at the same time knowing its just not me....

Where has time GONE!

My my my.......time certainly does fly when you're having fun, this is no lie! I was starting to feel guilty for not blogging every week as I had promised myself and others I would....I've had friends and followers asking me 'whats happening are you ok?', I really felt the pressure to deliver- I am sure you all can relate! It started to really bug me and then I thought 'I CAN NOT do everything', as much as I would like to think that I can, I can not! 'Only human, only human' I keep repeating to myself.

Style thought of the week:
When you are feeling down, un attractive, over weight and like there is nothing to wear- have a hot shower in the dark- light a candle to relax and connect with yourself, then exfoliate to stimulate your skin. Apply fake tan and don't wear anything tight. We always feel much sexier and appealing when we are tanned.

Get rid of the Winter in Spring blues.....

PS- try to stay away from the chocies and carbs for security!

Winter in Spring and Biological clock
The biological clock has started to tick lately trying to tell me its BABY time....and as you do you start to think about it...until you go to a major shopping centre invaded by nearly every mother and child in the south-eastern area....let me tell you the clucky feeling disappeared and I was ready for a big Grand Final afternoon filled with many beverages...it seriously drove me to drink! MY GOD......that's what happened s when it rains in Melbourne on school holidays....they all run for the warm shopping centre...I know I did. I had my 2 cousins with me, ready for a fab day at Luna Park and it rained like it was Winter.....so bright lights, warmth and games arcade.....CHADSTONE!

Whilst I was @ Chadstone, on a positive note, I snuck into Sportsgirl........oh.....wow!!! It took me back to the first time I walked into Topshop, Oxford st in London. It was colourful, overwhelming, bright, waaaaaayyy to big, loud, flashy, exciting and dizzy....I didn't know which wall to look at first- shoes, bags, the make up sparkle stand or look through the concession stands- my favourite Minty & Munt, or the Recycle section. Either way.....I had to leave before I passed out.....it was fabulous and too much all at the same time.....I am planning a trip just to Sportgirl Chadstone this week. Now that I know what I am in for....I am prepared- Comfy shoes, lots of water, eat before, loo break before entry, go solo and lots of time.

Football & Men
I don't do Football I do the other 'F' word.....Fashion! However, if I did not participate in the very Australian event just gone, Grand Final Day, I would of felt like a fraud. The Barkly is where myself and 5 other friends spend a whopping 12 hours semi watching the football, screaming, drinking, socializing, laughing and observing.

I got to observe groups of women bagging other groups of women, how did I do this....I eaves dropped...it was fascinating!!! Women are such bitches......like we didn't know this already. What do I mean by this.....well its interesting that a woman is intimidated by other women that may dress or dance promiscuously, if they don't like what the other is wearing, if they are getting more attention than them...JUDGMENT!

The most fascinating thing was watching grown blokey men expressing themselves to the big screen, feeling and showing emotion- anger, excitement, compassion, it was amazing that these Men were doing the 3 things that they probably struggle with naturally in a relationship- Expressing what they were thinking, Emotion- showing how they felt and voicing it and finally Affection- when the team they were barracking for won there were big bear hugs, high fives and those that lost...dare I say tears!!! Why does it take Men in tight shorts kicking a ball to bring Men to FEEL & EXPRESS?!!!

The Age of Innocence- Sweet 16

Its really interesting sitting and chatting with 16 year olds...I say this because I forgot how it felt to be 16!! You forget how naive, gullible, sensitive and impressionable you are. You forget that you were struggling with pimples, dry skin, how you looked when you were warping from half child to half teenager ('FUGLY' stage- we all went through it), experimenting with makeup (I say this loosely), when Adidas snap pants were in, how to be liked by a boy was EVERYTHING and going to school was a social event rather than a requirement for your future. I forgot how you are interested in songs with words, that are about love, bumping & grinding and that are boppy.......don't get me wrong, ALOT has changed.....girls have adopted the words 'like', 'Oh my god', 'random', 'wateva', 'Yeeeesssssss (sometimes with 'oh my god in front)', they dress like there going to an over 28's bar and kitten auditions or the complete other end of the scale....'On the Welfare look'- messy, oily, ratty hair in a 'wateva' bun, smudged makeup and over sized clothes.

I have to admit, I thought all 15+ girls had been brain washed and inspired by the trashy US shows and were all 'Blair- Gossip girl' wannabees with no manners, a weird language, dressing beyond their years, acting like their 28 and growing up way before they have to.....until I went to my first 16th party in over 12 years!!! I forgot there was NO alcohol for the underage, that they have NO idea about what songs are HOT in the clubs (I know this b/c when we hi jacked the ipod and played some hardcore electro....they were like 'huh'??), that they still haven't found themselves and understand who they are even though they all visually look like they do....I mean 15+ girls have some serious cleavage....it must be the hormones in the chicken! :) I forget about the banta 'I'll dance, if you dance' .etc. I forgot that 16th's are more relaxed and subdued....in fact all my cousins, brother, husband and I all did! We were clearly the only ones with Alcohol- maybe the loud screaming, running man's, krumping, hi-jacking the ipod, craziness sold us out.....I did forget was how much fun you have at a good old house party but most importantly....how much you change, grow up, achieve, experience, laugh, cry and forget after your 16th. I was truly a great reflection moment! It was wonderful to see that there are many sweet 16 year olds who are in no hurry to GROW up- they love their family, their shy, sweet, nervous, still intimidated by boys and innocent. THANKGOD!

The message- Sometimes we all feel 16 again, that feeling of trying to sort out what were meant to be doing, why we are here, how to achieve our goals, how to feel good about ourselves, the negative self talk over powers our thoughts.....but eventually it all works it self out and you do work it out, you do grow, you do love yourself more than you could ever imagine and someone else loves you to, you do have wonderful friends and family bla bla bla......sometimes we just forget!!!

Soooo..........take a moment, stop, close your eyes if you wish and REMEMBER who you were @ 16 back then, and enjoy the memory journey of who you've become or still are.

FASHION TIP- this week, simply dress appropriately to the weather so you don't 'catch a freezing!'. Just because our crazy ol' gal Melbourne brings out the sunshine doesn't been its time for sandals and cotton dresses. Most stores will have now received the start of their Spring/Summer styles.....get inspired and hit the stores.

ALTERATIONS MAN!

I was looking through my wardrobe and after counting 7 pairs of jeans, 10 black pants and a trillion skirts i don't wear, i thought 'either donate to charity or alter them in someway to freshen them up'. So some went in the charity bag and a pile went off to my Chinese husband&wife alterations team, around the corner her in Oakleigh. I shortened dress hem lines, I changed straps, altered pants and now feel like I have been shopping. Its a great way to use the items that have been sitting there getting needy and unloved.

Its ridiculous that we only wear 20% of our wardrobe....the other 80% is there for good looks.

Full moons, mood swings and FASHION

So are we in Spring or Winter? This Melbourne weather seriously needs to see a Doctor....she is one sick, confused gal!

After what seems like a fuzzy and moody week (thanks to the full moon and 09/09/09 freaky date and energy)....I think I am back in reality. With so much to do and prepare, my head feels like it is spinning but aided by excitement. Today is a new sunny day and I am thrilled about the weekend....its meant to be a sunny weekend...at this stage!

Style Me Over is busily working in conjunction with Dom Bagnato Menswear on dressing some great players for the Brownlow, key celebrities for the Races, consulting ladies fashion boutiques and preparing Life+Style School Holiday programs due to start Jan 2010....still hanging to have my coffee today.

TRINNY & SUSANNAH are back in OZ for Westfield on October 9th & 10th, Melbourne- these gals are hysterical, classy, super stylish and brutally honest- i love it!

Sex & the City - OMG.....we keep seeing sneak previews of the SATC movie....arrgghh...excitels! Rumour has it there is a flash back to the 80's scene....whilst they were big in the 80's items such as lace leggings and studded vests have made a comeback and are hot right now!!!

Enter Spring.....sunshine, flowers, colours, a little bare skin, less layering, Spring fashion week and the RACES! I can not forget the hay fever we are all coping!

This week I have had a colourful week...

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW)- my favourite on the catwalk was Ginger&Smart - so European and effortlessly sexy...and the 'Beauty Room'....makeup touch ups from the team @ Napoleon, Hair techniques from the stylists @ Kevin Murphy and LOLLY POPS!! My fashionista GF- Christina accompanied me for a splendid night ending in cocktails at the magnificent 'Spice Market' and then the ...OMG...best Chinese I've had since Hong Kong.... China Bar, CBD (or I was starving???)

Visited Myer city and was blown away by the MASSIVE range of hats and head pieces in a rainbow of colours- Red, Purple, Yellow, Nude, Zebra, Cream and of course Black. Not to mention the show stopping gowns and dresses ready to be taken home that have hit the floor this week...you must get in there and check it out! I spent a lot of time and money in the accessory department- GLOVES GLOVES GLOVES. Either Black leather fingerless biker gloves or lace fingerless gloves are HOT...great worn back with a party dress and of course holding your drink at the same time.

After 11 years in the Fashion Industry and playing in different fields such as buying, designing, merchandising and product development TODAY I got to experience the chaos, excitement, rush and adrenalin that back stage at a FASHION PARADE in FASHION WEEK brings. Yes, I saw more tit and bum than in a soft R+ movie...my hat goes off to the Models that have to strip naked infront of so many strangers (I know..its their job! bla bla) Besides seeing Kris Smith (yes Danni Minogues sexy man) in his jocks, it was such a buzz to be amongst many of Australia's top Australian designer's new Spring styles and have my first experience dressing models back stage. Franco Schifilliti- an amazing Melbourne stylist who head up the Spring Luncheon Fashion Parade @ Flemington sponsored by Myer- did a fabulous job (I was fascinated by how charming and calm he stayed right throughout the show). It was also an honor to represent my Dad's brand 'Dom Bagnato' at the Spring Luncheon Parade today and see his suits on the catwalk....AND also have this years Myer's Fashion On the Fields Brad Miller dressed by DOM BAGNATO. Arrggh!

Well this week has been challenging, with the weather making us all feel so flat, down, un-motivated, lazy and hungry!!! Whether we like it or not the weather does play with our emotions and these emotions are what start the negative self-talk WE ALL HAVE. Yes you do.... you have it too...the one that says 'oh my god I can't be bothered going to work today', 'oh I hate this freakin traffic', 'I NEED something sweet', 'man I have love handles today’...you get my drift!! So this week has totally been a week about being comfy, warm, safe, secure, damn hungry and full.... you with me?? When I feel down, needy and flubberish (aka this week) besides doing my husbands head in - I resort to wearing dark colours, layering (to feel safe and not exposed), wear too much make up and over eat. We also stay indoors- which is NOT good for retail and the food industry. What do you do?? What I’ve realised this week is its OK to have a week like this...I was trying to fight it, but its over now. You need challenging weeks to appreciate your fabulous weeks...bring on a BRIGHT weekend.

UK STYLE TRENDSThe UK plays such a big part in setting the trend for OZ and many large retailers will do their buying and get inspiration from stores such as top shop (oxford st. is my fav- stopped breathing from excitement when I first went there), Zara(OMG- love love love), Miss Selfridges, H&M, portobello market, River island and many more. Then they will develop the styles with China manufacturers and within 2 months have it on our for sure.... this is why you will sometimes see the same top (exactly the same) across several Australian leading retailers.... they all bought the same sample to copy from the same shop Overseas.

As you can see we have already started to see these trends instore here in OZ- Studs, sequins, animal print, leopard print, lace, embellished neck lines, neutral colours and slouch harem pants.

Pumped!

What an amazing week it has been...after doing 5 sessions with the Year 10's at OLSH- Bentleigh, Victoria- last week focusing on self belief, confidence, goals and how this effects ones style...I am pumped!! They we're so excited, focused and full of questions...many of them are wanting to do the Style Me Over School Holiday Program in January with us.

The boutique I am consultanting for-milli lulo- in Hawthorn is thriving and our VIP's are loving the new stock arriving each week.
